A month for the movers amongst you. Big dancey opportunities from boogaloo- groovers Big Boss Man well known for their hybrid of pop, 6T’s R’n’B / Latin soul and funk outfit. A rockier sound can be found from “Best New Blues Act” 2014 band Red Butler, all crashing guitar and large-lunged-lyrics. In a similar vein we’ve got the ever wonderful Danny Bryant returning with gutsier vocals and chords than you’ve ever heard from him before.
Hugh Cornwell has made a few changes too. The former Stranglers frontman & songwriter has just released a brand new solo album solidifying “UK Punk’s Dark Lord” (Rolling Stone) reputation for the snarlingly melodic. Another act with an even more 70s flavour is Zervas & Pepper. A little less punk a lot more Californian chill, Zervas & Pepper are a folk-rock duo who deliver a luminous harmonic sound, earning them fans in high places (“I think you guys are excellent” – Dave Crosby)
Things take a dark but twinkly turn when The Emily Portman Trio start to sing. With lyrics inspred by Greek myths, magical realism and music crafted by three masters of folk – this an eery yet beautiful set unlike anything else you’ll hear this year. Speaking of unusual Henry Maynard of Flabberghast Theatre brings his own man physical comedy show Tatterdemalion to the Arlington stage.
