The Alter Eagles | Friday 22 April | 8pm | £17

The Alter Eagles are delighted to return to the Arlington Arts Centre with a very special tribute to one of the greatest country rock bands of all time. Joined by their friends The Spectre String Quartet, the band will play the entire ‘Hotel California’ album from start to finish in the first half. Then in the second, they’ll perform a combination of ballads like ‘New York Minute’ and ‘Take it to the Limit’, together with greatest hits like ‘Take it Easy’, ‘Lyin’ Eyes’, ‘Witchy Woman’ and ‘One of these Nights’.

Since they started in 2004, the six piece have built a reputation as one of the most faithful tributes around, so along with the string arrangements, you can still expect plenty of rocking twin lead guitar breaks and sumptuous four part country harmonies.

So what makes a great tribute? It’s more than simple mimicry, according to singer/guitarist Jay Stezaker. “It’s not as if we dress up like the Eagles or anything like that – we’re more interested in the music.”

“It’s been a real education,” says guitarist and singer Steve McCormack. “One of the Eagles’ great strengths is that they make everything sound so simple, but when you come to pick it apart, you realise how much is going on and what great songs they really are.”

The band members are Steve McCormack (vocals, guitars) Jay Stezaker (vocals, guitars) Alan Tomkins (keyboards, guitars, vocals) Rob Beattie (bass, acoustic guitar, vocals) Mike Bradley (guitars, vocals) and Ollie Green (drums and percussion). Ferocious Dog | Saturday 23 April | 8pm | £20

English working class Celtic-Folk-Punk. The Levellers meets Billy Bragg meets The Pogues. More than a band, they are a family.

“To listen to the Ferocious Dog as it snarls and growls at the world is to show responsibility” said a Louder Than War review of their brilliant, recently released and Fake News and Propaganda album, but this is an outfit that shows compassion too. They’ve been hailed as “a representation of our gut feeling, savage and merciless” and at the same time, called “folk in the grand tradition of it being the peoples sound.” Ferocious Dog, however are all those things. And that, in a world where the lines of truth are blurred by the rich, powerful and corrupt, is priceless.

“Ferocious dog are a very socially conscious band and their music and lyrics are designed not only to make you smile and sing along but also to make you feel something.” – Folk-Metal.NL.

The Shee ‘Summer’s promise tour’ | Thursday 28 April | £14

Cross-Border folk multi-instrumentalists and festival favourites, The Shee, met on the Folk and Traditional Music Degree course at Newcastle University in 2006.

The Shee are an exceptional band boasting powerful and emotional vocal performances and instrumental prowess. Featuring the talents of BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year 2017, Rachel Newton on Harp, Sting’s clogger of choice, Amy Thatcher, on Accordion For ‘The Shadows’ Tour in Spring 2020 The Shee will be joined by a new member; Scottish-Icelandic percussionist Signy Jakobsdottir, adding a fesh approach to the band’s huge catalogue of material.

Following three albums (‘A Different Season’, ‘Decadence’ & ‘Murmurations’) and a hectic touring schedule over the past decade, the six members of the band each commissioned a Folk Music hero and in some cases mentor, to write an original piece of music for their fourth album ‘Continuum’ to celebrate their tenth anniversary as a band.

Premiered at their sell out concert at Celtic Connections and toured around the UK and at Summer festivals throughout 2016 – 2019, the album has received great audience and press acclaim.

The Shee are now working on material for their new album, which will feature an adventurous brew of Folk, Gaelic and Bluegrass music. Expect slow airs, Gaelic ballads, original songs, highenergy tunes, hypnotic riffs, and, of course…clog dancing!
