A Late Addition

We have a late addition to our latest season of events that we can now announce: London’s first lady of Soul – PP Arnold! The former back-up singer of Tina & Ike Turner and known for hits such as ‘The First Cut is the Deepest’ and ‘Angel Of The Morning’ will perform at Arlington Arts on Thursday 10 October 2019. Tickets are £16 and go on sale Wednesday 19 June at 10am.

Five decades after she became a ’60s icon with the timeless pop hits ‘The First Cut Is The Deepest’ and ‘Angel Of The Morning’ on Rolling Stones manager Andrew Oldham’s ultra-hip Immediate label, soul singer P.P. Arnold is set to release a double-album of stunning new material featuring contributions from, among others, Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Cradock, The Specials and P.P’s songwriter son, Kodzo.

Titled ‘The New Adventures Of… P.P. Arnold’ and released via earMUSIC on August 9th , the album crowns an extraordinary career that has seen the singer back Ike & Tina Turner as one of The Ikettes, record with Mick Jagger, the Small Faces, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Barry Gibb and Primal Scream, and provide her distinctive backing vocals for Billy Ocean, Peter Gabriel, the KLF, Paul Weller and, most recently, Roger Waters.

‘The New Adventures Of PP Arnold’ was recorded and produced by life-long P.P. enthusiast, OCS star and Paul Weller band guitarist Steve Cradock at his Kundalini Studio in Devon, and follows on – after a 51-year gap – from the singer’s two legendary solo albums on Immediate Records, ‘The First Lady Of Immediate’ (1967) and ‘Kafunta’ (1968), as well as a more recent compilation of previously unreleased material from the late ’60s and ’70s, ‘The Turning Tide’ (2017).

“It’s great that I’m coming back with this record,” says P.P. “Even now, I’m still finding my way, because the industry changes every decade, and you’re sometimes out of the loop. For me it’s all about faith, meditating, love, praying… try to be ready and don’t give up the fight. That’s the message.

The New Adventures of P.P. Arnold” album (CD, LP, DL)  – Out now!

One of the UK’s most successful Genesis tribute bands, Mama faithfully reproduce the sights and sounds of a high octane, contemporary Genesis rock concert with fantastic musicianship from acclaimed musicians.

Lead singer, John Wilkinson, delivers the Phil Collins vocal sound with power, passion and precision. On keyboards, the band benefits from the technical wizardry of John Comish. Guitars are provided by Jon Vatikiotis, backed up with the rock solid technical playing of James Cooper on drums and Dave Jones on bass, 12 string guitar and bass pedals.

When asked about the show, John Wilkinson said, “The idea of a Mama show is to celebrate the music of Genesis by having a Genesis party. We are huge Genesis fans, just like our audience. It’s great to meet so many likeminded Genesis fans as we tour the UK year after year. They know what they like!”

On Sale Now – The Alter Eagles

The Alter Eagles are delighted to bring their two hour-plus tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time to the Arlington Arts Centre for the very first time. So what makes a great tribute? It’s more than simple mimicry, according to singer/guitarist Jay Stezaker. “It’s not as if we dress up like the Eagles or anything like that – we’re more interested in the music.”

“It’s been a real education,” says guitarist and singer Steve McCormack. “One of the Eagles’ great strengths is that they make everything sound so simple, but when you come to pick it apart, you realise how much is going on and what great songs they really are.”

The process can be painstaking but it’s always worthwhile. “There’s a real buzz when you crack a particular harmony or when Mike and Steve nail a guitar duet. Once that’s happened, we just want to get the song out there and start playing it in front of people,” says Stezaker.

The band members are Steve McCormack (vocals, guitars) Jay Stezaker (vocals, guitars) Alan Tomkins (keyboards, guitars, vocals) Rob Beattie (bass, acoustic guitar, vocals) Mike Bradley (guitars, vocals) and Jacob Booth (drums and percussion).
