From Colour to Calm

Monday 04 July to Monday 26 September, Monday to Friday, 10am-4:30pm.

Our summer exhibition this year is called ‘From Colour To Calm’ from local artists Geoff Wond and Isobel Pigott, together with ceramics by Sally Bettridge.

Colour is Isobel’s passion. She works in different media, including oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel and paper cut-outs. She approaches her work with instinct and ‘gut reaction’ and finds creating a piece of art a very physical and emotional experience.

Geoff Wond is inspired by the wilder places of Britain, the landscapes of Dartmoor, Exmoor, Cumbria, Scottish highlands and islands and occasionally further afield to Scandinavia, the Faroes, Iceland and the islands of the Baltic. Geoff attempts to capture the fleeting images created by the constantly changing cloudscapes and light in such places, initially with pencil sketches in the field and then later with watercolours in the studio. Geoff favours loose, wet in wet techniques, whose effects can be as unpredictable as the weather, sometimes simplifying a scene to the point of abstraction, but hopefully retaining its essence.
